This Weekend in Connecticut Sept 13-15th

September 13-15, 2013
Celebrate the Season
Enjoy a weekend of celebrations. The Connecticut Schooner Festival (Wednesday-Sunday) celebrates our state’s maritime heritage, history and spirit of innovation. The five days of family fun starts at Mystic Seaport with the arrival of 20 vessels and plenty of hands-on activities. A transit from the Seaport to the historic port of New London will take place on Friday with a race scheduled for Saturday along with plenty of entertainment and activities. The Arts & Crafts Festival in Simsbury (Saturday & Sunday) will feature an outdoor juried show with more than 100 exhibitors showing and selling their originals creations. And the Fly-In & Car Show at the Simsbury Airport (Sunday) celebrates one of the largest events of its kind in New England featuring a display of more than 700 airplanes and automobiles of virtually every type and vintage. There’s plenty of fun for the entire family including hot air balloons, formation flying, parachuting, a military flyover and much more. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk is hosting an Old Fashioned Flea Market (Sunday) featuring antiques, collectibles and an outdoor exhibit of classic and antique cars along with a concert on the South Lawn. If you want to just sit back and relax check out the Jazz Cruise (Sunday) departing from the State Pier in Haddam. Enjoy seven hours of continuous live jazz while cruising on the scenic Connecticut River.
Enjoy the warm days and cool nights at the Highland Campground in Scotland. The Fall Camping Special includes camping all weekends in September for just $200. Leave your trailer on site during the week at no additional charge. Check in Friday after 3 p.m. and check out Sunday by 3 p.m.
More celebrations to enjoy:
BIG E Connecticut Building
The Eastern States Exposition, also known as the “Big E” is a very unique kind of state fair. Rather than serving just one state, the Eastern States serves six states – the six New England States. Take a stroll down the Avenue of the States, which features replicas of the original state houses and be sure to visit the Connecticut Building. The fair runs from September 13 through September 29. Special activities are in store for Connecticut Day, Wednesday, September 18.
Four Town Fair, Somers (860) 749-6527
Four in one – you can’t beat that! Celebrating its 175th year the fair includes the towns of Somers, Enfield, Ellington and East Windsor and will feature everything from contests and demonstrations to entertainment and plenty of food and hands-on activities (Thursday-Sunday).
French Farm Day, Greenwich (203) 869-6899
Enjoy an afternoon of art and nature. The young ones can get up close and personal with the farm animals, take a scavenger hunt, make pressed cider and enjoy nature crafts while you can take a tour focusing on horticulture and the history of the property (Sunday).
Pawz in the Park, Ansonia
Enjoy a fun day with your dog at Warsaw Park. Activities include police dog demonstrations, rally and obedience matches, agility demonstrations, micro-chipping clinic, “meet the breed”, parade of breeds and even pet photography (Sunday).
These highlights represent just a sampling of the many exciting events taking place across Connecticut this weekend. For more information about these and other entertaining activities, use the Events Quick Search on the right side of the page.
